Transportation in Caen


Buses and Trams

Caen has an excellent urban transport network operated by Twisto.
Trams and buses will take you along the entire territory of Caen-la-Mer, including to the beach at the end of line 61!
The tramway serves all of our campuses in Caen, university residences as well as the train station.

The Noctibus, the night version of Twisto buses, which connects downtown Caen to the main university campuses and residences, will allow you to make the most of Caen's nightlife.

A single-journey ticket, valid for 1h15 across the entire network, costs 1.50€.
For a cheaper option, you can also opt for a book of 10 tickets (12.70€), 24h tickets (4€) or a monthly subscription (from 30€ / month).

Bike

Cycling is a great way to discover Caen and its surroundings. Many bike paths wind the city to secure your urban travel and you can use greenways to ride quietly to the sea or the countryside, far from the hustle and bustle of the city life.
If you want to buy, rent or repair a used bike, discover bike paths, the Maison du véloat the Rives de l'Orne, just off the train station is the place you are lookign for.

Twisto also offers different bike rental options:

  • vélolib: self-service bicycles spread over 23 stations
  • veloloc: 600 bicycles, classic and electric, long-term rental


Walking

Caen is not such a big city and it is easy to walk to one place to another within the town.
For example, it takes nor more than 30 minutes to walk from campus 1 to the train station.
And the city center is only 5 minutes from Campus 1 by cutting through the castle of William the Conqueror. 

In a nutshell, Caen is a pedestrian-friendly city !


Discover Normandy


From D-Day beaches to Honfleur's fisherman's houses to the quaint bocage area, Normandy est une région de patrimoine qui mérite d'être découverte le temps d'une journée ou d'un weekend.

By bus

The Calvados Bus Verts network allows you to explore the area at low prices. From Caen's central bus station, you can hop on a bus to Honfleur, the medieval castle of Falaise, the Bayeux Tapestry or the D-Day beaches.

By bike

Cycling  allows you to venture beyond the beaten paths and further into nature. From Caen, the greenway takes you to the beach of Ouistreham in the north and the cliffs of Clécy in the south.

À vélo

Le vélo permet de s'aventurer au-delà des routes et de se promener en pleine nature. Depuis Caen, la voie verte vous ammène jusqu'à la plage de Ouistreham au nord et aux falaises de Clécy au sud.

À pied

En train

Au départ de la gare de Caen, les lignes du réseau SNCF vous emmènent au Mont Saint Michel (arrêt Dol de Bretagne), dans le Cotentin (Ligne Caen-Cherbourg) ou bien à Rouen, l'autre grande ville de la Normandie.
